The Role:

As Senior Purchase Ledger Assistant, you will take full responsibility for the day-to-day management of the purchase ledger process. Working closely with the Finance Director and wider team, you’ll ensure the accurate and timely processing of supplier invoices, maintain strong supplier relationships, and support financial reporting through month-end activities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Full ownership of the high-volume purchase ledger function using Sage 200
  • Process and reconcile supplier invoices for raw materials, packaging, utilities, and overheads
  • Ensure all supplier payments are made accurately and on time, in line with agreed terms
  • Perform regular supplier statement reconciliations and resolve any discrepancies
  • Liaise effectively with suppliers and internal teams to manage queries
  • Accurately match invoices with POs and delivery notes
  • Support VAT return preparation and filing via Sage
  • Assist in month-end ledger close to support the production of timely management accounts
  • Maintain up-to-date and accurate supplier records
  • Review supplier pricing to ensure cost accuracy
  • Contribute to process improvements and efficiency initiatives within the accounts payable function
  • Provide ad hoc support to sales ledger and other finance-related tasks as needed

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Proven experience in a similar purchase ledger or accounts payable role
  • Proficient in Sage 200 or similar finance systems
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Confident communicator with the ability to build strong working relationships
  • A proactive approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement
  • Flexible and willing to support wider finance activities when required
