The Opportunity

An established and highly respected transport and services organisation is seeking an experienced Finance Manager to lead financial control and reporting across a multi-brand operation with revenues in excess of £60m per annum.

Reporting to the Head of Finance, this is a senior hands-on role with responsibility for statutory reporting, monthly management accounts, audit, VAT, cashflow and team leadership. The position offers excellent exposure to group finance, senior stakeholders and continuous improvement initiatives within a complex, high-volume environment.

Key Responsibilities

As Finance Manager, you will be responsible for:

  • Full ownership of monthly P&L reporting and period-end close
  • Preparation of annual statutory accounts in line with group reporting deadlines
  • Balance sheet reconciliations and journal postings
  • Leading and coordinating the annual external audit
  • Ensuring compliance with IFRS and relevant accounting regulations
  • Oversight of revenue recognition and cost accounting, including liaison with public sector bodies for concessionary revenue
  • Cashflow management and coordination of payment runs
  • Preparation and submission of quarterly VAT returns
  • Driving continuous improvement in financial controls, processes and systems
  • Providing ad hoc financial analysis to senior management and group finance
  • Line management and development of two finance team members

Skills, Experience & Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Proven experience in a Finance Manager, Financial Controller or similar senior finance role
  • Fully qualified accountant (ICAS, ACCA, ACA or CIMA)
  • Strong technical accounting knowledge with practical application experience
  • Excellent attention to detail and high standards of accuracy
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to engage stakeholders at all levels
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet strict reporting deadlines
  • A proactive, organised and methodical approach to workload management
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Experience with management reporting and financial analysis
  • People management experience, with a collaborative leadership style
  • Experience using accounting systems (Oracle or SAP advantageous, but not essential)

Working Pattern

  • 38 hours per week, Monday to Friday
  • Hybrid working – 3 days per week in the Glasgow office
