We are seeking an experienced Employee Relations Specialist to join a complex, unionised organisation on a 12–18 month fixed-term contract. This is a key role supporting the business through a high-volume, fast-paced ER caseload, working closely with managers and the wider HR team.
This opportunity would suit someone confident operating in a unionised environment, who enjoys hands-on case management and providing pragmatic, commercial advice while maintaining strong employee relations.
Key Responsibilities
• Managing a varied and complex ER caseload, including disciplinary, grievance, capability, performance, and attendance matters
• Leading on absence management, supporting managers with long-term and short-term absence cases and ensuring consistent application of policy
• Providing expert advice and coaching to line managers on ER best practice and risk mitigation
• Working constructively with trade unions and employee representatives, supporting consultation and maintaining positive working relationships
• Supporting investigations, hearings, and appeals, ensuring processes are fair, timely, and legally compliant
• Contributing to the continuous improvement of ER processes, policies, and manager capability
• Operating effectively within a flexible and hybrid working environment, balancing on-site presence with remote working as required
About You
• Proven experience in an ER-focused role within a complex, unionised organisation
• Strong case management expertise, with the ability to manage volume and complexity confidently
• Solid knowledge of UK employment law and best practice
• Confident communicator, able to influence and challenge appropriately at all levels
• Pragmatic, solutions-focused, and comfortable working at pace
• CIPD qualification
